| SAINT PAUL PUBLIC SCHOOLS ELEMENTARY SCIENCE FRAMEWORK | | Welcome to the Saint Paul Public Schools Elementary Science Framework. This work has come about through a three-year effort by teams of Saint Paul teachers. The identified curriculum resources aligned with the adopted benchmarks are meant as the base level of instruction necessary to meet standards for science in Saint Paul. Some variation is expected within the local context to maximize the unique qualities of individual schools - yet the integrity of the work is expected to remain robust and complete.
This work is aligned with the SPPS Blueprint and Project for Academic Excellence effort for curriculum review in all subject areas. This site is designed to offer the complete Framework plus additional and supporting resources. The online document is meant to be alive and reflective of modifications and changes that may be necessary. Please bookmark this site and visit regularly. Downloadable pdf versions of all hard copies distributed in the fall of 2007 are housed here.

SCIENCE INTO LITERACY (CORI) How often have you discussed science and literacy and found the
exchange occurring only one way. “Yes, literacy has a lot to offer
science. We can help with strategies to read non-fiction, write
informational articles, etc.” Seldom is it the other way around.
Seldom do we discuss what science has to offer literacy. We’d like to
offer an opportunity to reverse that dialog. Scientifically Based
Reading Research within the Concept Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI)
framework has found significant differences in a student‘s reading
comprehension and fluency when teachers integrate the motivational
power of science to engage students in text. Science can support the
reading classroom by providing an engaging, motivational context for
reading to thrive.
WANTED: We are looking for an integrated team from
three schools to join us in the "Science into Literacy" initiative
through implementation of the CORI framework over the course of the 2008-2009 school year. Go to the Science into Literacy (CORI) webpage for more information and to access the team application form. |
