Program Description

Social Studies education in St. Paul public schools prepares students to think critically, analyze primary and secondary sources, communicate and display information, write and speak effectively through a variety of subject areas.

St. Paul’s K-6 Standards-based Framework ensures that all Minnesota standards are fully met and that our students gain valuable Social Studies skills and content at all grade levels.

Elementary teachers present Economics, Geography, Government and Citizenship, Historical Skills, St. Paul, Minnesota, United States and World History lessons as well as integrate non-fiction social studies content into students’ daily Reader’s and Writer’s workshops. Please contact the school to request program information. http://www.spps.org/Elementary_Schools.html

The St. Paul Public Schools Social Studies department works as partners with a variety of community organizations including The Minnesota Historical Society, Junior Achievement, Minnesota Council on Economic Education, MAGE, National Geographic and Kids Voting.  Through these relationships, students and staff receive resources and participate in events including History Day, Geography Bee, Geo Fest, school elections and guest speakers.
